How Do You Handle Traumatic Experiences?

Welcome back, friends! Happy Friday! Are you ready for the weekend? Silvia has a very busy weekend ahead with soccer tryouts, baseball and basketball games and a country concert while Veronique is throwing a small birthday party for her youngest daughter on Saturday. She is turning 2!

Now let’s talk about the podcast. This past Monday (6/13/24) we had a deep and thoughtful conversation with Katy, also known as Smiley. Katy is a Certified Christian Mental Health Coach, and one of her goals is to destigmatize trauma and grief. To listen to the full episode, click here:

Katy is from Slovakia and now lives in England with her husband. Back in 2020, on her way home from work, she suffered a very bad accident. She was hit by a car and had serious injuries.

It took several months for Katy to fully recover. During her healing process she was diagnosed with PTSD, had frequent nightmares, anxiety, and depression. That’s when Katy realized she was dealing with something much bigger. She was experiencing grief.

According to Katy, it is crucial to understand the meaning of trauma and grief so that we can properly address those emotions and heal. The key is not to pretend they don’t exist because if we do, we will have a very hard time handling them.

There are different ways of healing trauma and grief. It all depends on the level of emotional/physical pain an individual is experiencing. As Katy mentioned in the podcast, it can go from “being able to get out of the bed and have a shower” to going back to your usual self and fully reinstating your activities pre trauma. Regardless of where we're at, it is a process that each one of us goes through on our own pace.

We all have gone through experiences that have left scars in our lives, big or small. This is normal and part of being human. We are here to learn and evolve and the older we get the bigger the chances of encountering unpleasant circumstances. However, how we respond to those circumstances is what really matters.

The best way to start our healing journey is to face our fears and trauma upfront and work with them accordingly. We can always start by saying “Hello” to those emotions and looking at them with neutral eyes. In fact, the more neutral we become to those feelings the easier it is to heal what needs to be healed.

Katy offers online support to individuals who are experiencing or have experienced grief and trauma. She also is the founder of a project called: PTSD: My Story Project. In this project, people write and share their stories on her website. It’s a great way to connect with others who are also experiencing and managing grief. All her information and resources can be found on the episode’s show notes.

We loved our conversation with Katy, and if you enjoyed it as well, please share it with your friends! We truly believe her message can help many people who are currently dealing with trauma and grief.

On another note, don’t forget to check out our Wednesday (6/15/24) episode about finding ways to reduce stress and bringing more joy to our lives. We shared great tips that have been working well for us and they might also benefit you! Here is the link to the episode:

Also, if you’d like to leave us a voice message, Speak Pipe is the place for that! It would be so much fun to hear a message from you! Don’t be shy! We’re waiting!  https://www.highvibesandamic.blog/contact-6
